How is the Slimming Medics different from all those other weight-loss programmes?

will see a fully qualified doctor with years of training and experience whom you’ll see on a confidential one-to-one basis, plus we are regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Secondly, we do not promote starvation diets as these can lead to yo-yoing. Our programmes will allow you to eat between 1300 – 1500 calories a day, which with the help of appetite suppressants, is quite manageable. We aim to help you develop good eating and drinking habits, but recognise that we all enjoy the occasional meal out, a few drinks with friends and the odd weekend away, party or wedding.

Thirdly, we don’t promote the latest fad in juices, shakes or expensive diet meals, but encourage you to prepare your own healthy meals and to eat regularly which leads to gradual, consistent weight loss. We’ve seen it work hundreds of times.
Am I told what to eat and when?
I am worried that after finishing the programme I will just put the weight back on again?

You’re right. Keeping the weight off is an ongoing struggle and there are many reasons for this – some physiological, some genetic, some psychological and it doesn’t help that we are bombarded by tasty, highly-calorific foods, coffees and sugary drinks everywhere. If you starve your body it will lead to yo-yoing, so our approach is for gradual, sustainable weight loss by getting you to change your habits and approach to food so that you can continue independently once you’ve completed the programme. Nevertheless, we do see about one-third of our patients a year or more after completing their programme with us to help nudge them back in the right direction again. However, once you’ve reached your goal, we encourage you to come on our free maintenance programme. Visit us on a monthly basis to be weighed, have your body composition analysis done, speak to the doctor and come away with a bit of encouragement! Understandably, many patients become our friends.
Are the appetite suppressants safe?

We offer a range of appetite suppressants, from natural ones to medication. As you know all medication carries some risks, even commonly used ones like Aspirin and Paracetamol, which is why you can only be prescribed these ones by a doctor at a regulated, specialist clinic like ours. The medications we prescribe have been proven for over 40 years and are the most widely used appetite suppressants used in the USA, Canada and Australia. We source the medications from three pharmaceutical manufacturers in the UK. Usually, the doctor will prescribe you a lower dose for the first week to see how you get along. Some patients say that they might get a dry month and feel a bit restless for a day or two, but invariably this passes.

However, these slim risks must be weighed against the very considerable risks of being overweight. Did you know that 1 in 3 adults in this country are pre-diabetic? Did you know that a weight gain of just 11 pounds can double your risk of getting Type 2 diabetes or a gain of 20 pounds can double a woman’s risk of getting breast cancer. Likewise, a man’s risk of getting a stroke, heart attack or prostate cancer increases directly in line with his weight.

So yes as with every medication there are some slight risks, however you will be monitored by a fully qualified doctor throughout and the risks of remaining overweight are immeasurably higher. So join up and live healthily for ever after!

How long can I take the appetite suppressants for?
Why shouldn't I buy slimming tablets off the internet?

There have been a few tragic stories of people who did and suffered the consequences, so we would seriously advise against anyone thinking of doing this. There are hundreds of different offerings promising this and that which are as confusing to us as they must be to you. As a clinic regulated by the CQC (Care Quality Commission), the medication we use has been proven for over 40 years in the USA, Canada and Australia. We source the medication from three pharmaceutical companies that manufacture under license in the UK. Also, remember the support and value you get in talking to a doctor who keeps you accountable for your results and who has helped hundreds of people like you before.
Why can't I get these appetite suppressants from my GP or the local chemist?

Because NICE (National Institute of Health & Care Excellence) has not yet approved these medications, along with many other new medicines, for general release to the NHS/GPs. You cannot get them from your local chemist as these are controlled drugs (CDs) and therefore can only be prescribed by a doctor at a specialist, regulated clinic like Slimming Medics.
