WELCOME TO NEW PATIENTS
Welcome to Slimmingmedics. We’re going to be alongside you on your journey to achieve your target weight and become the person you want to be, whether it’s to lose only a couple of stones, or fifteen stones – which has happened more than a few times!
You would have already met a Patient Care Manager and had your first consultation with one of our doctors. The doctor would have already asked you about eating habits and lifestyle, and agreed with your weight loss targets. She/he would have weighed you, inquired about your health, taken your blood pressure and waist and hip measurements.
You are paying good money for your treatment so you will be expecting results. Although all patients are different, we would normally expect you, depending on your size, at the start of your programme, to lose about 7 – 14 pounds (3kgs – 6kgs) in your first month, and then 6 -7 pounds (3kgs) per month thereafter depending on how well you keep to your new eating plan! Remember, we measure fat loss as being more important than weight loss. We are also concerned not just with the external fat you have, but with the more dangerous internal visceral fat, which surrounds your organs, heart, liver, pancreas etc.
The 3 most important things you must do to lose weight are:
1/ Cut down on your portions. Here the appetite suppressants will help you. You must reduce your portion sizes, perhaps use a diet plate (we have some), and count calories.
2/ Increase your activity. Go to the gym – or walk more. You need to do 10,000 steps a day. Most people do 2,000. Buy a fit bit or count your steps on a smart phone.
3/ Drink 2+ litres a day.
Falling off the wagon! Stick to the programme as best as you can, but you will, of course, from time to time, ‘fall off the wagon’ with a party, wild weekend, too many BBQs or nights out. Stuff happens! So when it happens – please don’t run and hide. We have a saying – ‘Denial ain’t a river in Egypt.’ This is, more than ever, the time to come to us. We’re never judgemental. We’ve seen it all before and with our help and encouragement you’ll soon be back on the straight and narrow!
Breakfast is essential. It provides the energy and nutrients we need for the day and there is some evidence to suggest that eating breakfast can actually help you control your weight. Make time for a protein breakfast, such as boiled or poached eggs. What about porridge? It’s a great slow release energy food. Sprinkle your porridge with seeds or nuts or dry fruit to give it variety.
So we wish you success! You didn’t put on weight overnight, so it’s unrealistic to think that you can lose it overnight either. We’ll help you to develop a new relationship with food and your body and come out the other end slimmer, fitter, healthier and dare we say it…sexier too! We’ve done it many times before, and we would like to do it for you too.
We love Dr Mike Evans’ videos. This one is about Healthy Eating and is 15 minutes long – but it is thoroughly worth watching it more than once, so when you’ve got a moment sit back, relax and enjoy!
Now we encourage you to browse our Patient Area to pick up tips on how best to help you lose weight.
